Justin had been walking through a department store aimlessly. He had plenty of time on his hands and didn't have any idea what to do with it. He decided to simply walk around, letting his feet carry him wherever they wanted. The fluorescent lights hummed overhead as he passed racks of clothing and displays of merchandise he had no interest in purchasing. It was on one of these aimless wanderings that he noticed her—a petite, full-figured woman wearing a pink long-sleeve one-piece pleated dress, with a bow-tie collar, a matching pink waistband, and a pink pleated skirt extending to the ankles with nice crisp accordion pleats. She wore pink low-heel dress shoes on her feet and was examining herself in a full-length mirror, adjusting her outfit with delicate hands.
Justin approached, drawn by some inexplicable curiosity. As he drew closer, something strange began to happen. The world seemed to tilt and shift around him. After a moment of disorientation, it was himself who was looking in the mirror. He recognized his face immediately—his same brown eyes, his familiar nose and mouth—but his body had changed. He had the petite, full-figured body of a woman, but his own face. He couldn't be any taller than five feet tall. The pink dress hugged his new curves, and when he lifted a hand to touch his face, he saw slender fingers with painted nails.
A sense of calm washed over him, as natural as breathing. He reached down and picked up his purse. The weight felt familiar in his hand, the strap settling comfortably over his shoulder. He had to hurry; his husband would be home soon, and he hadn't bought the groceries yet. Without another thought, Justin turned away from the mirror and walked toward the grocery section of the department store, the pleated skirt swishing gently around his ankles with each step.
